Family Weekend

Family Weekend 2016 is October 21-23!

Please read below for our tentative schedule.  If you have any questions as you are planning your visit, please do not hesitate to contact the Student Experience Office at 518-276-8022 or email us at parents@rpi.edu.  
 
 
 
 
If you have registered to participate in apple picking or the Football game during Family Weekend, please consider dressing warm.  The forecast for Saturday, October 22 is currently predicting a 51 degree high, and a 90% change of rain.  We recommend rain coats, umbrellas, and waterproof footwear, especially if you're be in the apple orchard.
 
 
Family Weekend pre-registration is now closed.
Online registration closed at 11:59pm EST on Friday, October 14, 2016.  No changes or requests to cancel will be honored at this time per our cancellation policy.
 
Families wishing to register for the weekend, can do so onsite, at the Family Weekend Welcome Center on October 21 and 22, at the Heffner Alumni House.  If you'd like to purchase additional tickets, they must be purchased through the RPI Athletics box office.
 
Please see the link to the right for the In-Classroom Experience schedule.  If you plan to attend any classes prior to the Family Weekend Welcome Center opening, please remember to check-in at the Heffner Alumni House following your classes.

Check-In and Onsite Registration

Please make your first stop on campus the Family Weekend Welcome Center to pick up all Family Weekend registration materials, event tickets (including football & hockey), the official schedule for the weekend and any additional purchases.  If you are unable to check in within the hours listed below, please be sure to have your student pick up any materials.

If you have purchased tickets for either the Friday or Saturday evening hockey games, and have not picked them up at the Family Weekend Welcome Center in the hour prior to the hockey game, they will be available at the Family Weekend table, at the Houston Field House.

Admissions Information Session and Campus Tour

Stop by to meet Admissions representatives and have your questions answered regarding undergraduate Admissions.  The information sessions will begin at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM with campus tours departing at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM
 
School of Architecture Overview

Family Weekend will begin by Yael Erel giving the visiting family a tour of the Greene Buildings studios, fabrication shop, and library.  She will take the time to introduce the visitors to the work of our student body, while also allowing them to engage students with questions.  The visit will last for approximately one hour and will give the visitors a comprehensive sense of the uniqueness of the School of Architecture at Rensselaer.
 
Summer Arch Information Session and CCPD Open House

Chat with the School of Engineering and the CCPD about Rensselaer's new initiative, The Summer Arch. CCPD counselors will also be available to answer questions about our what our office does, resources we have and other career-related questions!
 
Learning @ Rensselaer

This workshop offers an overview of the initiatives, learning strategies, and tools supporting active learning at Rensselaer. New initiatives such as the Collaboratory will be discussed along with undergraduate research opportunities, the concept of flipping the classroom, and tools available on campus. Some of the tools promoting student engagement and learning include clickers, Blackboard, My Mediasite, and Adobe Connect.
 
Study Abroad 101: Helping Students Think Outside Their Borders

Come learn about study abroad opportunities for students at Rensselaer. Get the facts on when, where and how your student can study abroad. SleepWalks: The Body of Dreams, a multi-media dance performance by Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company with video environments by Andrea Williams, and sound by Andrea Williams and Lee Pembleton, based on the descriptions of the collaborative dreams (or strong themes that emerge) of the participants of the SleepWalks overnights. LEGO Robotics Workshop & STEM Outreach

RPI student mentors will guide participants (students 8-14yr and parents are welcome)  as they learn the basics behind construction and programming of a LEGO EV3 Robot. Students will advance through LEGO Robotic stations in order to complete a sequence of  challenges designed to illustrate the educational capabilities of LEGO Mindstorm Technology. Workshop is taught by RPI student volunteer mentors trained by RPI’s Center for Initiatives in Pre-College Education. Non-ticketed.

International Festival
